Concord Nor’Easters Women’s Hockey Club By-Laws
Created in 1996, Revised in 2006

  1. Introduction
    1. The Concord Nor’Easters Women’s Hockey Club (hereafter called "the Club") is a recreational level hockey club based in Concord, NH that is the successor to the Granite State Hockey League (GSHL).

  2. Eligible Players
    1. The Club is open to all women aged 18 or older.
    2. Only male players who were members of the GSHL are permitted to continue playing with the Nor’Easters. Men may also play with the Club in goal if no women goalies are available.
    3. All players must pay a registration fee before the stated deadline for each session. The registration fee for each session will be set by the Board based on the cost of ice time and other expenses and the anticipated number of players for that session.
    4. All players must be members of USA Hockey, and offer proof of membership by providing their USA Hockey confirmation number. Players are encouraged to register with USA Hockey online. Note that players must renew their membership with USA Hockey each year.
    5. Players who do not register and pay for the entire season may play on a substitute basis for a fee determined by the Board. Substitutes must also be members of USA Hockey.
    6. Club registration fees are waived for goalies, but goalies are also required to be members of USA Hockey.

  3. Rules of the Game & Player Conduct
    1. All games and scrimmages shall follow USA Hockey Rules.
    2. USA Hockey rules apply whether there is a referee for the game/scrimmage or not.
    3. All members of the Club recognize that hockey is a contact sport with inherent risks of injury.
    4. The Club has zero tolerance for players who take the ice intoxicated by the consumption of alcohol or other substances. Any player who appears to be intoxicated or otherwise impaired will not be permitted to play. USA Hockey’s rules regarding alcohol consumption will also be enforced.

  4. Equipment
    1. Players must wear protective equipment while on the ice, including shin pads, elbow pads, gloves, chest protectors, skates, and a helmet with full face protection designed for hockey. A non-plastic hockey stick must also be used.
    2. Goalies must wear a full complement of protective goalie equipment at all times on the ice.

  5. Scrimmages, Games & Tournaments with Other Teams
    1. Often, the Club's ice time will be used for practice and/or scrimmage with other Club members. When that occurs, the team will make an effort to find someone to act as referee.
    2. The Club will play games and enter into tournaments with other teams. If a registration fee is required, each player will pay their proportionate share of the fee.
    3. Participation in games and tournaments with other organizations is voluntary, and team rosters will be filled on a "first to sign up" basis.

  6. The Board of Directors
    1. There are no term limits for participation on the Board of Directors ("the Board").
    2. Board members are Club members who volunteer to serve and do so for no compensation.
    3. The Board will meet when necessary.
    4. The duties of the Board include the following:
      1. coordinating ice time and team schedules,
      2. handling of all financial aspects of the team (including paying for ice time, collecting member registration fees, Club USA Hockey registration and paying referees),
      3. scheduling referees, and
      4. hearing and resolving player complaints.

  7. Player Complaints
    1. If one player has a complaint against another, they should attempt to rectify it among themselves.
    2. If the players cannot rectify the matter themselves, the complaint should be brought before the Board in writing as soon as possible.
    3. Once a written complaint is made, the Board shall meet as soon as possible to determine an appropriate course of action.
    4. The Board has the authority to both warn players of inappropriate conduct and/or to suspend or expel players from the team, depending on the circumstances.

  8. Bylaw Changes
    1. These bylaws may be modified by the Board after giving notice to the team members in writing, or by written petition by a Club member that is ratified by 2/3 of the registered members.
